Southern California has trusted us for 20 years
I'm 33 and had the VenaSeal procedure and it went wonderfully. Before this my legs ached every night; now they feel light again.
Dr. Sivia was excellent. He explained the VenaSeal very well and calmed all my fears. The procedure went very smoothly.
The staff was very professional and friendly. The ultrasound and, in my opinion, the entire visit were very thorough.

Do these symptoms sound familiar?
Vein disease shows up in how your legs look, and in how they feel at the end of the day.
- Bulging or rope-like veins
- Thin red, blue, or purple lines just under the skin
- Swelling in the ankles or feet
- Aching, heaviness, or fatigue
- Cramping or restless legs at night
- Itching or burning around the veins
- Skin discoloration

Spider veins, and what they're telling you
Those fine red, blue, or purple webs are usually harmless, but they can be the first visible hint of a circulation problem underneath.
For many people, spider veins are purely cosmetic. But they can also be the surface sign of chronic venous insufficiency, where the valves in the deeper leg veins leak and let blood pool. Treating only the visible veins without checking for reflux is why spider veins so often come back. A quick ultrasound settles the question.
Signs of underlying reflux
- Aching, heavy, or tired legs, especially after standing
- Swelling around the ankles by the end of the day
- Larger bulging or ropey veins alongside the spider veins
- Skin discoloration or dryness near the ankle
- Symptoms that ease when you elevate your legs
Sclerotherapy: a quick injection that fades fine spider and small surface veins. Treated veins typically fade over 3–6 weeks.
When symptoms or underlying reflux are present, treatment is considered medically necessary and is covered by Medicare and most major insurance plans. Purely cosmetic spider vein work is typically self-pay.
It's more than cosmetic
Varicose veins are the visible sign of vein disease, a progressive medical condition. Here's what's happening underneath:
Valves weaken. Tiny one-way valves keep blood moving up your legs toward the heart. With age, pressure, or genetics, they stop closing fully.
Blood flows backward. When a valve leaks, blood falls back down and pools in the vein. Doctors call this venous reflux.
The vein bulges. The trapped pressure stretches the vein wall to the surface, and it's what drives the aching, heaviness, and swelling.

Questions, answered
Is vein treatment really covered by insurance?
Usually, yes. When veins cause symptoms like aching, swelling, or cramping, treatment is considered medically necessary, not cosmetic. We accept Medicare, IEHP, PPO plans, and many other insurance plans, and we verify your exact coverage before your visit.
Are spider veins covered by insurance?
When spider veins come with symptoms or signs of underlying reflux, treating the vein disease is considered medically necessary and is covered by Medicare and most major insurance plans. Purely cosmetic spider vein work is typically self-pay, and we verify your exact coverage before your visit.
What happens at the free screening?
A specialist examines your legs, asks about your symptoms, and tells you whether vein disease is the likely cause. It takes about 15 minutes, and there's no referral needed and no obligation to treat.
Does treatment hurt?
Modern vein treatment is done through a tiny entry point with local numbing only, no general anesthesia. Most patients describe pressure rather than pain, and are surprised how quick it is.
How long does treatment take?
About 30 minutes in our office. You walk in, walk out, and most patients return to normal activities the same day. There's no hospital stay.
Isn't this just a cosmetic issue?
No. Visible veins are often the surface sign of vein disease, a progressive condition where faulty valves let blood pool in the legs. That's what causes the aching, heaviness, and swelling, and it's why insurance covers treatment.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book a free screening directly, no referral required.
Will the veins come back?
Treated veins are closed permanently and your blood reroutes to healthy veins. New veins can develop over time, which is why we map your legs with ultrasound first, to treat the source and give results that last.
What if I don't treat them?
Vein disease tends to progress. Symptoms usually worsen gradually, and over the years untreated veins can lead to skin changes, more swelling, and in some cases ulcers. A free screening tells you how far along things are, even if you decide to wait.
